Masonic Garden
On the Square Wins Silver Gilt Award

Designer: Hazeldean, Beard, Hazeldean

The purpose of the garden is to promote Freemasonry and to demonstrate through
contemporary design, and planting, its traditions and values. ‘On the Square’ pertains to a
phrase used in Masonic circles. The design highlights traditional values promoted by Freemasons
whilst creating a relaxing and contemplative space. The structure serves a practical and symbolic purpose.
The square and compass provide both seating and visual interest. The boundary hedging will
provide shelter for the users and wildlife, whilst the windows allow alternative views of the garden
and a location for the mason bee house. The lamppost and railings are a
reminder of a London Square.
